感動的画質　　（2008-07-20）
手ぶれ補正がないので手ぶれに注意し、露出にも注意しできるならば段階露光で、
意外と被写界深度が浅いのでピントにも注意し、RAWで撮影。
１枚１枚丁寧に現像すると感動的画質に巡り合えます。
今までのコンパクトデジタルカメラの画像はなんだったのか？
いや、一眼レフの画像もなんだったのか？
と、思います。
うそ偽りのない画像がリアリティと空気感を再現してくれます。

更に世界２台カメラメーカーのニコンもキヤノンも出せなかった、
大型センサーを積んだこのカメラを
コンパクトデジタルカメラを発売したことのないシグマが出してくれたことに敬意を表し
買うべき１台だと思います。

売れなければ２度とこのタイプのカメラは発売されません。

Compact, light-weight, powerful: SIGMA DP1　　（2008-04-14）
As a long-time foreign resident in Japan I bought my Sigma DP1 in March 2008 from Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku. I brought it on a trip to Oahu, Hawaii where I had ample opportunities to photograph the beautiful nature, the beaches, the sunsets etc. All my shots were done as X3F (Sigma's Foveon RAW format) and converted to both TIFF 16 bit and JPG using accompanying "Sigma Photo Pro 3.1" software for the MAC (lately updated to the improved version 3.2). I also took similar photos with a SONY DSC T100 for comparison. I first looked at the converted, but unadjusted, images which were already great. But after using the "Review Images/Adjustment Controls" in the "Auto" position individually on each image, it brought out much more detail and much more vivid colors. The APS-C sensor and 28 mm special lens really shines. I have not taken such great photos since I bought my Rollei 35S on my first trip to Japan in 1979.

The DP1 has its limitation in low-light conditions (since it is only an F4 lens), and the built-in flash only works for very close range (while the optional flash is better). The optional range finder (that I also bought) looks cool, but I did not find it particularly useful and ended up using the LCD for all shots. The lens hood with a (separate) standard filter was a very useful and is recommended.

Notice that some businesses in Japan and Korea are coming up with half-leather cases for the Sigma DP1 which protects it, and also makes it look a lot cooler. Most go in a "retro" direction, which probably fits the camera.

Being well aware of the limitations (fixed, non-exchangeable lens, only F4 sensitivity, no anti-shake), this is an extremely "focused" camera for making truly excellent shots on par with the very best and LARGEST digital SLR. Someone described it as a Magnum 44 performer with a midget body. You can catch your subject off guard and make a better (strictly photographic) shot as a result.

現行では名機になれず　　（2008-04-08）
巧く使いこなせば、まさに一眼に匹敵する一枚を撮ることができます。発色も意外となめらかで万人向けかもしれません。

しかし毎回アンダー気味で、撮影毎に当たり前のように補正をしています。晴れた野外は液晶での視認が見難いため、撮影結果を予想できるくらいの撮影経験＆スキルが必要になります。気軽に何枚も撮るよりも、1枚ずつじっくり撮るというスタイルになりがち。この作業は玄人嗜好かもしれませんが、日々持ち歩き記録する「日常機」にするのは厳しいと言えます。操作系にかなりクセがあるので、満足できる撮影ができるまでには慣れが必要。それを覚悟して購入するのをお勧めします。

画素数や写りの際立ちなど他のコンパクト機を先んじていますが、それ相応の価格のため性能に驚きはないというのが率直な感想です。

現状は荒削な印象ではありますが、後継機がとても楽しみなカメラでもあります。

画質が違う！　　（2008-03-30）
今まで、あえてデジタル一眼ではなく、コンパクトで美しい画像を望んでかなりの機種を購入しました。Nikon P5000, GR Digital, GX100などなど試しましたが、今ひとつ納得のいく画像ではありませんでした。今までのコンデジは、宣伝ではいい写真が撮れると言っていても、実際はたいした差のないものばかりだと感じていました。
今回、DR1を購入して、ようやく感動する画像にめぐり合えました。確かに操作性には問題があるとは思います。記録やAFが遅いとかマクロがないとか・・・しかし、目で見た色合いがきちんと出るコンパクトデジカメはこれが初めてです。また、撮った写真が心から美しいと思えたのもこのDP1が初めてです。自然で美しい色彩の写真が撮ることに関心がある方で、一眼でなく、日々の感動を残したいと考える方には、私としてはお勧めだと思いました。

次回バージョンに期待　　（2008-03-21）
発売がとても待ち遠しく、予約までして購入しましたが、実用としては期待に反しておおよそ喜べないものでした。あまりネガティブな事は書きたくありませんが、同じ気持ちの人は多いように思います。
個人的には撮影テンポの悪さが最も目につきました。液晶に数秒間撮影した画がずっと残るのも4、5年前のデジカメのようです。
キレイな画像だけを求めるなら、フィルムカメラでいいわけです。デジカメならではの便利さ、融通の良さ、レスポンスの良さなどがこのカメラには欠けているように感じられました。
